Using a mix of still photography, animation and HD footage, Sabotage Film Group's Scott Lansing designed, directed, and shot the music video for Trances Arc's "Birds Collide" from "XOXOX". Scott chose to shoot the music video with his Nikon D200, an SLR still camera. The video follows the unsupervised exploits of a neglected boy menacingly marching through his surreal and inattentive neighborhood.
"I had done a 3 minute branding image spot for Turner Classic Movies a few years back, using still photography in a very slow methodical movement. I had always wanted to have the right project where the roughness and jumpiness of sequential photography would add to the overall concept of the piece."
Animator Jason Koch, designer and illustrator of the now famous adult swim "aqua teen hunger force" character ‘iZ' that "terrorized" the Boston police several years ago, was in charge of designing and animating all the illustrations in the piece.
"When the edit was done I wanted to add illustrations that would tell us more about the boy's psyche. I met with Jason and told him to run with it. He came back with these amazing illustrations, brought them into cinema 4d and After Effects, and really enhanced way past what my expectations were. The rawness of the illustrations felt very honest to the boys character", says Scott.
Keep an eye out for Trances Arc's new full-length record coming out in winter 2010! [
