I'm currently looking for work in the Washington, D.C. area and created this reel out of past work in my current position. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Ronald,

Again, I appreciate the advice. I don't think anyone would be successful in this business if they let constructive criticism affect them to their core and let themselves have thin skin. :) So, I didn't take it as a put-down, but an opportunity to learn and grow. Plus, since my desire is to move up in the video world at a new place and in a new city, I'll take the advice to heart and start working on new reels. After all, constructive criticism was what I was looking for when I posted the reel.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to help me out. I truly appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Sean Kimber

If you do two things, do two reels -- one for your motion graphics, the other for your shooting. In my 60 years of working with human beings, I have learned that we are a simple lot. ;o) Keep the shiney things focused and simple, your message will come across a lot better if you do so.

You do great work, Sean. Please do not take any of this as a put-down.

Hi Ronald,

I appreciate the constructive criticism. I was attempting to make the reel an example of both my videography and motion graphic work in an attempt to showcase my overall talents. However, this must not be coming across. I will work on a revision and try to repost. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Hello Sean,

I hope you do not take this the wrong way but if this were my demo reel, I'd cut it down to just the absolute best stuff and shorten it. Lose things like the podiatrist checking the woman's foot, arguably the weakest moment in the video (but there are others like it), and concentrate on the strong and positive images.

The best demo reels I have seen are 30 seconds long and make you go "Man, I wish they had shown more!" Most video reels make the viewer hit the stop button because they are showing too much and for too long.

Please do not take this as a slap in the face, you have great stuff here -- show it. Leave the rest on the cutting room floor...then repost it.

Respectfully,

Ronald Lindeboom
