I've got a question regarding the music in your reel. I'm currently making a reel myself, but was avoiding licensed music. I've been looking to find good stock or fair usage music. Is this a waist of time, truthfully?

In my opinion, yes it's a waste of time. Many artists and companies use unlicensed music on their reels. Typically, the only times a company has avoided doing so is when they're playing in the big leagues, or when they just don't know any better. Worst case senario; a record company will send you a letter telling you to switch out the tracks. There's about a 1% chance that would ever even happen on a demo reel. You might also hear people occasionally tell you that companies who are hiring look down on reels with copy-written music on it. In my opinion, that's complete BS. No company does that. 8 of 10 times, people couldn't care less about your resume or what school you went to, let alone whether or not you paid for the music that's on your reel. They just want to see your work.

That was fantastic. I wasn't sure if I was being entertained or seeing samples of your work. I mean, that is great, because it kept me there, to see the commercials you did, while watching the common thread of a music video. Is that pretty accurate?

It did make me ill to realize that I'm told I'm good at what I do; I see that I am generations of talent away from your work. Congratulations on getting in the right place in life to be able to do this work.

What discipline were you responsible for, filming, editing, exactly what?

Thank you
Trig

Thank you sooo much for the kind words, Trig. I really appreciate it.

I did all of the postproduction work (editing, vfx, etc.) by myself on all of the featured spots, aside from a couple. The state farm and volkswagen ads were only graphics and finishing jobs, and "Britney: for the Record" was a brutal two month vfx job, but I didn't edit it. Everything else was all me, baby.

I currently do freelance work out of LA... will@thisissiren.com
